Daniel and I heard something at a marriage conference that stuck with us. The couple told us that we had to figure out what type of vacation family we are. We knew we wanted to make memories for our children and we know we can do that by taking a lot of little getaway trips.
We heading out in January to Tyler State Park to celebrate Daniel's birthday. The children get very excited when we are packing to go camping. They love the adventures that are head of them. Tyler State Park did not disappoint. It is a beautiful area of Texas with trees as tall as you can see. For this flat west Texas girl it is a sight to see. The camp was quiet but full of life with families going on adventures. Saturday morning we headed off on the park ranger class. We learned that getting lost in the woods does not have to be scary, that you just have to be prepared for anything. Malachi learned that if he gets lost int he woods he is to hug a tree, sing or talk to the tree, and scream when he hears his name being called. Also if he sees a helicopter that he is to lay down on the ground and wave his arms and legs. Very educational hick.
Our afternoon ranger class was about how to start a fire with different things. We learned that dryer lint is a good fire starter. Also how to start a fire with D batteries, very fun and we need to try it soon. On Sunday we headed for the boat dock and renting a John boat to head out on the lake and go fishing. The kids that a blast out on the boat. We did not catch anything but we did see fish jumping. A great time was had by all. We took an extra day to relax before we headed home.
This state park was by far the favorite one for the whole family. I see us going back often.
